WELCOME FROM THE AAS  PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION

On behalf of the Anglo-American School of Moscow’s Parent Teacher Organization, I would like to welcome all new and returning families to AAS’s 2010-2011 school year!

I realize that many of you are new to AAS and Moscow and that this may be your first experience with a Parent Teacher Organization, so let me tell you a little about the AAS PTO.  First, it is important to note that, as a parent, you are automatically a member of the AAS PTO.  In fact, all parents as well as all teachers are members of the AAS PTO and are encouraged to participate in our activities. We are an independent organization and are not affiliated with any outside groups and do not support any political activities.  All PTO funds are used to enrich our school.

The AAS PTO is a multi-faceted organization.  Although we have one or two big fundraising events each year, the PTO does so much more!  Our activities are aimed at enhancing the education of AAS students and life in Moscow of AAS families and teachers.  We organize visiting artists, book fairs, craft fairs, community outreach and fun activities for parents, families and students.  An overarching goal of the PTO is to build positive relationships among parents, faculty and students.

We would love for you to learn more.  The PTO holds monthly meetings.  They are generally held on the third Tuesday of every month.  They are a great source of information and community contacts.  The PTO needn’t be a big time commitment. No one is obligated to volunteer or attend regularly. Attending a meeting does not require you to commit to anything. Come to all, one, or just a portion of a meeting!  Come by to learn more or simply to meet new people!  Of course, if you would like to become more involved by volunteering on a committee, we would love to hear from you.

During the first few weeks of the new school year, we will host neighborhood coffees.  This is a great opportunity for new and old parents to meet others in their area or with similar interests.  Please look for more information on these events on the AAS website.

We are looking forward to the 2010/2011 school year being the best one ever for AAS.  If you have any ideas, comments or suggestions, please let us know.  One of the most exciting parts of having new people in the community is that with new people, come new ideas.

Best Wishes,

Kim Wilkie, PTO President
