The Mother Language Program:
Understands that the level of development in the mother language strongly predicts the students’ success in their second language development.
It fosters the ability to think and express themselves with precision, clarity, confidence and imagination.
As research has shown many skills acquired in reading and writing can be transferred from the mother language. Therefore the goal of the M.L program is for the student to become communicatively competent in the four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
We believe and understand that teaching in the target culture serves in the development of cross-cultural communication. We also understand that encouraging minority communities to participate in the children’s education will empower students and foster their self-esteem.
Parental involvement in the students’ mother language has an important effect on children’s progress, especially in reading. This program encourages parents to participate in their children academic program through home activities and classroom involvement.
